High School • First Team All-City in baseball as a first baseman sophomore and junior years • First Team All-City in baseball as a pitcher senior year • First Team All-City in basketball as a center sophomore and junior years College • Received  baseball scholarship to attend St Mary’s College Professional • Played 8 seasons as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, 2 before World War II and 5 after • Won game 1 of the World Series in 1946 in relief for the Red Sox Other • Enlisted in US Army in 1942, later promoted to lieutenant •  Awarded Bronze Star, Bronze Star with clusters, and Silver Star for heroism in combat • Inducted into State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 1983
