High School First Team All-City in baseball as a first baseman sophomore and junior years First Team All-City in baseball as a pitcher senior year First Team All-City in basketball as a center sophomore and junior years College Received  baseball scholarship to attend St Mary’s College Professional Played 8 seasons as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, 2 before World War II and 5 after Won game 1 of the World Series in 1946 in relief for the Red Sox Other Enlisted in US Army in 1942, later promoted to lieutenant  Awarded Bronze Star, Bronze Star with clusters, and Silver Star for heroism in combat Inducted into State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 1983
