High School • Four-year letterman and three-time All-City first team outfielder for the Bulldogs • All-City fullback as a senior Professional • Joined semi-professional Yakima Bears’ baseball club in 1935 • Signed by Cleveland Indians in 1936 as top power-hitting prospect • First American League player to register 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a season • Played 14 seasons in MLB with the Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns and Boston Braves • Three-time All-Star (1941, 1943 and 1945) • Led the league in triples and home runs over his career Other • Served as broadcaster, providing color commentary, for the Seattle Rainiers • Named to the Cleveland’s Top 100 Indians list • Inducted into Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame
